Pastor’s Pondering for April 2008

Have you ever thought of how a good poem can change a person’s outlook on life?  I hadn’t given it much thought either, until the other night.

Just this week,  Pat and I watched a movie in which a poem changed the attitude and life of an individual.  The change occurred when this person discovered the message behind the lines of rhyme and rhythm.  The author of the poem used carefully chosen words to express her inner feelings.  These words finally caused the reader to see the light.  It almost moved me to tears! (Now I’m being sentimental!)

As I considered that short scene, I began to think of how God had produced a poem to show the world what He does in the life any person who puts his trust in Jesus Christ.  This poem is not found in a book.  It is revealed in your life and mine.

In Ephesians 2:10, the apostle Paul wrote: “For we are His workmanship. Created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”  The word “workmanship” comes from a Greek word from which we get our word “poem.”  That means that God has created you and me to be His poem!  As we live our daily lives, we are to demonstrate how God takes a jumbled-up life and turns it into a beautiful poem for all to see and enjoy!  Is the poetry of your life changing anyone near you?  Selah.  Pastor Gerald
